Paige Spiranac, the world’s No. 1 ranked golf influencer, recently took to Twitter to defend LIV Golf against its critics, saying that it was good for the game of golf.

She also expressed her frustration towards people who say that too much fun is a bad thing. Spiranac deleted the video shortly after, and there is speculation that she was told to do so by the PGA or that she may have gone too far.

The LIV Golf tournament, backed by the Saudis, held its stop in Adelaide, Australia, over the weekend where fans were having a wild time. Fans were seen drinking beers out of shoes, and the course was being peppered with empties. Despite the fun atmosphere, many critics on social media were quick to bash the tournament.

Spiranac took issue with these critics and defended LIV Golf. “Fun is allowed and it should be encouraged, especially at sporting events. That’s why we go, to be entertained,” she said. “And let’s be real, it’s golf, it’s not that serious.”

She continued, “They are not saving lives or molding minds. They are chasing a ball around and hitting it with sticks, trying to get it into a hole.”

Spiranac also noted that people are quick to hate on LIV Golf because of the Saudi backing, and that they would have been more accepting of the wild atmosphere if it was any other tournament. She also wondered whether her tweet was taken down because she went too far or because she was told to do so by the PGA.

It is unclear why Spiranac deleted her tweet, but it is possible that she received some backlash for defending LIV Golf. Despite this, she has continued to express her opinions on social media and encourages the promotion of fun and entertainment at sporting events.

Maybe she’ll address it in her next Instagram Q&A.
