The supermodel Paulina Porizkova got vulnerable with her fans on Thursday when she posted a crying selfie on social media along with a lengthy emotional caption.
“I know you all enjoy happy posts, seeing people pick themselves up, dust off their pants and get back on the horse, all while smiling to let you know this fall just made them stronger and better people. But. Everyday is not a happy day in the path of recovery,” the 56 year-old began. “Trust after being betrayed seems as far fetched as being shot into space. Correction. It’s easier to see myself shot into space at this moment.”
Fox News reported that these feelings of betrayal may stem from her estranged husband, Cars singer Ric Ocasek, who cut her out of his will before he died suddenly in 2019. This forced Porizkova to lean on friends to even pay for groceries in the wake of his death.
“When you’ve been betrayed- promised something, only to have that promise broken without your participation – you were blindsided. You trusted someone you loved, and now all love is suspect,” she added. “But love is not possible without trust. And a world without love is not worth living. (All kinds of love).”
“So what does one do when you want to stay open, but the wind of betrayal keeps slamming the door?” Porizkova said. “I guess -maybe – walk outside and brave the weather? You’ll find me in the metaphorical closet pilling on layers for protection. For you who’d like to point out a crying selfie is the height of narcissism, I whole-heartedly agree!”

Porizkova has become an advocate against ageism, and she loves using her Instagram page to post filter-free images of herself in the hopes of encouraging other women to love their bodies for what they naturally are.
“I think we’ve made enormous strides in accepting all different sorts of beauty; I think size and color and all of these things that used to be so uniform now have broadened to a pretty spectacular [degree],” Porizkova recently told Page Six Style. “But age, ageism, that’s kind of like the last frontier.”
Porizkova added that she’s happy that she never contributed to the dark side of Instagram, which has seen users be pressured to filter their faces and bodies to perfection.
“Oh my God, the damage it’s doing is unbelievable,” she lamented. “All these young girls look to those pictures and don’t necessarily know that it’s not real. Being immersed in that world … how inspiring is it to only see something that’s so out of your reach?”
