Over the weekend, we reported that the singer Britney Spears had lashed out at her sister Jamie Lynn in a new Instagram post. The next day, she appeared to double down by seemingly mocking an Instagram post made by Jamie Lynn.
In Britney’s lengthy Instagram post from Saturday, she lashed out at those closest to her for “never showing up.”
“I don’t like that my sister showed up at an awards show and performed MY SONGS to remixes !!!!!” she wrote. “My so-called support system hurt me deeply !!!!”
Yahoo News reported that the next day, Jamie Lynn took to Instagram to write, “May the peace of the Lord be with you and your spirit.”
Hours after that, Britney appeared to parody this caption in a post of her own.
“May the Lord wrap your mean a** up in joy today,” she wrote in the caption alongside a video of herself dancing to Billie Eilish’s song, “Bad Guy.”
Many fans immediately took this to be a dig at Jamie Lynn. Fans have since taken Spears’ side.
“Dance away, Britney…your fans support you, even if your family doesn’t,” one fan wrote, with another adding, “She said sit down, Jamie Lynn.”
“Girl you really coming for Jamie Lynn neck, FREE BRITNEY,” a third fan wrote.
By Monday morning, Jamie Lynn had deleted her caption and replaced it with emojis. She also had turned off the comments, making it impossible for fans to give their thoughts on it any longer.
Jamie Lynn has pretty much stayed quiet throughout the entirety of Britney’s 13-year-long conservatorship, the legal arrangement that has given her father Jamie Spears visually complete control over her life. Days after Britney described the conservatorship as “abusive” in court earlier this month, Jamie Lynn took to social media to say that it “wasn’t [her] place” to speak publicly about it.
“Maybe I didn’t support her the way the public would like me to with a hashtag on a public platform, but I can assure you that I’ve supported my sister long before there was a hashtag and I’ll support her long after,” she said.
Jamie Lynn went on to suggest that she and her two young daughters have received “death threats” over the situation. She is said to be the only member of the Spears family who is not on Britney’s payroll.
“Facts,” Jamie Lynn wrote alongside a headline that stated that. “Now leave my broke-a** alone.”
