Earlier this week, we reported that Bill Cosby had been freed from prison after his sexual assault conviction was overturned due to a promise a prosecutor made in 2005 that he would not be charged for the crime. Now, his rep is speaking out to say that Cosby may actually make a comeback on the comedy club circuit.
“He’s doing fantastic — he stayed up until two in the morning telling jokes,” Cosby spokesperson Andrew Wyatt said, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“He’s been talking to a number of promoters and comedy club owners over his breakfast this morning,” Wyatt added. “He’s just excited the way the world is welcoming him back. A number of promoters have called. Comedy club owners have called. People want to see him.”
This came after Wyatt opened the gates of Cosby’s estate so that the reporters who camped outside his home could get a glimpse of the disgraced comedian’s first day of freedom. Wyatt also said that the 83 year-old had to relearn the layout of his mansion, because he has been blind due to glaucoma.
“He is not released because he is innocent,” tweeted Lisa Bloom, a lawyer representing three of Cosby’s accusers. “He is released because a prosecutor promised him years ago that he would not be brought to justice, without even making a deal for him to do time.”
The 3 Bill Cosby accusers I represent and I are disgusted that he is a free man today.

Cosby had served over two years of a three-to-ten year sentence for the sexual assault of Andrea Constand. An appeals court overturned the conviction this week because of a previous agreement with a prosecutor that Cosby would not be charged for this crime.
The court described Cosby’s arrest as “an affront to fundamental fairness, particularly when it results in a criminal prosecution that was forgone for more than a decade.” The court added that overturning the conviction, and barring any further prosecution, “is the only remedy that comports with society’s reasonable expectations of its elected prosecutors and our criminal justice system.”
After his release, Cosby once again declared his innocence despite being accused by dozens of women of rape and sexual assault.
“In response to the rhetoric that the media keeps pushing, Bill Cosby never admitted in his deposition testimony, or anywhere else, to non-consensual sexual contact with any woman and/or the drugging of anyone — he has never admitted to spiking drinks, as the media would like you,” Cosby began in his rant, according to Fox News.
“He has never admitted to spiking drinks, as the media would like you to believe. He has steadfastly maintained his innocence, before and after being falsely convicted of aggravated indecent assault,” the statement continued.
“Mainstream media has irresponsibly, egregiously, and inexcusably misled the public with out of context coverage regarding Bill Cosby’s deposition testimony,” Cosby concluded. “This shall serve as a grave reminder of the consequences that come with lying to the American people to satisfy an agenda.”
