Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson are too of the most popular stars in the world of action movies, but they didn’t quite see eye to eye during their time filming the Fast Five back in 2011.

The feud between the two men boiled over when Johnson, 49, called out an anonymous actor via social media from the set of the movie, and many fans played detective to narrow the person down to Diesel. in a new interview this week, Diesel opened up to give his thoughts on the feud.

“It was a tough character to embody, the Hobbs character,” Diesel told Men’s Health, referring to Johnson’s character of government agent Lou Hobbs. Johnson’s character was given the task of stopping Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto and his car gang.

Diesel, 53, believes the dispute between the two of them began because of how tough he was as a producer on the project.

“As a producer, to say, ‘Okay, we’re going to take Dwayne Johnson, who’s associated with wrestling, and we’re going to force this cinematic world, audience members, to regard his character as someone that they don’t know’ — Hobbs hits you like a ton of bricks,” Diesel explained.

“That’s something that I’m proud of, that aesthetic,” he added. “That took a lot of work. We had to get there and sometimes, at that time, I could give a lot of tough love. Not Felliniesque, but I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing.”

Diesel and Johnson would go on to work on the sixth, seventh and eighth films in the Fast And Furious franchise.

The tweet that clued fans in to their feud was posted in 2016, when Johnson wrote, “Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken s*** to do anything about it anyway. Candy a**es.”

Diesel never directly fired back publicly, seemingly always trying to take the high road.

“I don’t think the world really realizes how close we are, in a weird way,” Diesel told USA Today in 2017. “I think some things may be blown out of proportion. I don’t think that was his intention. I know he appreciates how much I work this franchise. In my house, he’s Uncle Dwayne. . . . It’s not always easy being an alpha. And it’s two alphas. Being an alpha is sometimes a pain in the (butt).”

Johnson has also since backtracked from his comments.

“Just like, in life, you have different philosophies and people have different fundamental philosophies on how you do things,” he told Entertainment Tonight in 2017. “And again, the most important thing is just the movie.
