The former MLB star Alex Rodriguez was spotted over the weekend partying with Lindsay Shookus, a writer for “Saturday Night Live” and previously dated Ben Affleck.

This is raising eyebrows, given the fact that Rodriguez’s former fiancé Jennifer Lopez rekindled her romance with Affleck weeks after ending her engagement to the ex-baseball star.

Video obtained by Page Six shows Rodriguez sitting next to Shookus as he attended her birthday party in the Hamptons on Saturday night while Josh Beckerman, known as the “Foodie Magician,” performed a magic routine for the guests.

While many were shocked by this and saw it as a juicy turn of events, Rodriguez’s rep claimed on Monday that they have been friends for years.

“There is absolutely zero there,” the rep said. “They’ve been friends for 15 years.”

Shookus and Affleck dated on and off between 2017 and 2019. Meanwhile, Lopez ended her engagement to Rodriguez in April weeks before she started seeing Affleck again.

“When they first split, he wanted to work things out, and still held on to hope that he and J.Lo would get back together,” the source told Entertainment Tonight. “He’s come to terms with the fact that it’s over now.”

The source went on to say that while Rodriguez is aware of all the attention Lopez and Affleck are getting right now, he’s trying to tune it out and focus on himself.

Another source recently said that Rodriguez was “surprised” by Lopez reuniting with Affleck.

“Jennifer and Alex have remained in contact after breaking up and have even seen each other since the split. The two plan to remain friends and are also in business together,” this source said. “Alex understands that Jennifer is single, but felt shocked by [her and Affleck’s] quick meetup. At the end of the day, Alex wants Jennifer to be happy, but the way everything has unfolded doesn’t sit well with him.”

A third source said that Lopez “tried her hardest” to make her relationship with Rodriguez work, but it just “wasn’t making her happy anymore.”

“She knew it was time to let go. There were issues when it came to wedding plans and trust issues that she couldn’t get past,” added the insider. “Her kids are sad about the breakup because they all grew so close, but ultimately want what’s best for their mom and for her to be happy. There is still love and respect between the two families.”
