A royal author is claiming in a new book that Prince William separated his household from his younger brother Prince Harry over the bullying claims made by Meghan Markle. William reportedly did this after an intense phone call with Harry over the allegations went off the rails.
In Robert Lacey’s book “Battle of the Brothers,” which is featured in the Times, a friend of the Sussexes claimed that “William threw Harry out” after the furious phone call which allegedly ended with Harry hanging up on his brother. Lacey claimed that William believed Meghan was “hostile” to the royal system and possibly planned on leaving the monarchy from the very start and returning to America.
Staffers alleged that Meghan “played the victim, but was a bully” and treated courtiers poorly in line with her experiences in Hollywood. She then passed this on to Harry, who was heard “screaming” at staffers. Meghan and Harry have denied the bullying claims that have been made against them.
William reportedly told friends that he thought Meghan had an “agenda” and felt “hurt” and “betrayed” by the rift, with the heir to the throne telling a friend his wife Kate Middleton “had been wary of Meghan from the start.”
Lacey claimed that William felt that Meghan was “stealing his beloved brother away from him,” and that she did not understand how the Royal system worked.
“Meghan portrayed herself as the victim, but she was the bully,” said one Kensington Palace courtier. “People felt run over by her. They thought she was a complete narcissist and sociopath — basically unhinged.”
Lacey added that it was a fight after Meghan and Harry’s trip to Australia in 2018 that sealed William’s decision to split their households. Harry told Oprah Winfrey earlier this year that it was the Australia 2018 tour that was the moment “the family got to see how incredible she is at the job” while comparing her and the alleged treatment she received by the royal family to his mother Princess Diana.
The fight happened over an official email claiming Meghan was bullying palace staff, which was sent by Jason Knauf, communications secretary to the Cambridges and Sussexes, in October on 2018. Staff had already started coining the “half joke” of #freeHarry. Harry and Meghan’s spokesman has since claimed that he couple are the target of a smear campaign, and denied allegations of bullying.
Lacey claimed that William called his brother as soon as he heard about the email, but the conversation ended with Harry slamming down the phone and hanging up on him.
