By Sunday afternoon, crews had discovered several parts of the plane as well as human remains in a debris field that was about half a mile wide, according to Entertainment Tonight. The crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
Lara rose to fame when he starred as Tarzan in the 1989 TV movie “Tarzan in Manhattan,” before reprising his role in 22 “Tarzan: The Epic Adventures episodes” from 1996 to 2000. His other credits include roles in Baywatch, Tropical Heat, Steel Frontier and more.
Lara had been married to Gwen, who was famous for founding the Christian weight loss group Weigh Down Ministries in 1986, since 2018. She then founded the Remnant Fellowship Church in Brentwood in 1999.
“Gwen Shamblin Lara was one of the world’s most kind, gentle, and selfless mother and wife, and a loyal, caring, supportive best friend to all,” the church said in a statement, according The Tennessean. “She lived every day laying down her own life to ensure that others could find a relationship with God.
“Because of that, her memory will definitely remain for a long time as she has a place in millions of people’s hearts around the world through her work with Weigh Down Ministries and Remnant Fellowship Church,” the statement added. “Her wonderful and supportive husband, Joe Lara, will also be greatly missed.”
Survivors of the couple include two adult children from Gwen’s first marriage, Michael Shamblin and Elizabeth Hannah.
