The Hollywood actress Kate Hudson is in shock after learning that her former costar Matthew McConaughey may be running for governor of Texas.

While appearing on Rob Lowe’s “Literally!” podcast, Hudson was asked if was going to help with McConaughey’s campaign should he decide to run. After a long silence, Lowe spoke up to say, “That was a long pause. Can I just say for the record, that was a very long pause.”

“Sorry, hold on. Let me just take a sip of my [drink],” Husdon said. “I have not heard this. This is the first I’m hearing of McConaughey getting into politics.”

“He’s a really interesting guy. I, honestly, if he does want to get into politics, I believe that Matthew, you probably wouldn’t get a politician who would care as much as he does, you know?” she added. “I think he’s very authentic in how much heart, um, but the governor of Texas is a big job. I mean, is that what we’re talking about? The governor of Texas? … Oh, wow.”

Politico reported that McConaughey has been “quietly making calls to influential people in Texas political circles, including a deep-pocketed moderate Republican and energy CEO, to take their temperature on the race and to talk about seriously throwing his hat in the ring.”

McConaughey said this week that if he becomes governor, he doesn’t want to instate policy “Band-Aids” that can be ripped off by his successor.

“I’m not interested in going and putting a bunch of Band-Aids on that are gonna be ripped off as soon as I’m out,” McConaughey said. “I’m interested in building something that can last, and I’m measuring what category that is. I don’t know if that’s politics.”

Two months ago, McConaughey said he was giving “true consideration” to throwing his proverbial cowboy hat into the Texas gubernatorial race.

“It’s a very honorable consideration. So am I considering that? Sure. It’s a great thing to and an honorable thing to be able to consider,” he said, according to The Wrap.

“What I’ve got to choose for myself is, I want to get into a leadership role in the next chapter of my life,” he continued. “Now, what role am I going to be most useful in? I don’t know that that’s in a political position or if that’s me as a free agent. So that’s something I’m personally working on, is: What is my position of most use in a leadership role?”
