In Prince Harry’s new five-part docuseries “The Me You Can’t See,” which he worked on with Oprah Winfrey, he opened up more about his upbringing in the British royal family. Now, a royal expert is speaking out to say that while the series is important, it’s yet another attack on the royals.

“The world is a better place for what Harry has done,” royal historian Robert Lacey told People Magazine. “But this is another blow for the British crown and royal family.”

British journalist and mental health advocate Bryony Gordon added that Harry has taken on “an important form of duty” by breaking the shame barrier around mental illness.

“This is a man who, at the age of 12, was sent out to walk behind his mother’s coffin and console the masses outside Kensington Palace,” she explained. “I just don’t understand why we’re now angry with him that that might have affected him.”

In the series, which premiered on Apple TV+ last Friday, Harry claimed that his father Prince Charles refused to question the hardships of royal life.

“My father used to say to me when I was younger, ‘Well, it was like that for me, so it’s going to be like that for you,'” Harry said. “That doesn’t make sense — just because you suffered, that doesn’t mean that your kids have to suffer, in fact quite the opposite. If you suffered, do everything you can to make sure that whatever negative experiences that you had, you can make it right for your kids.”

“Isn’t this all about breaking the cycle?’ he asked. “Isn’t this all about making sure that history doesn’t repeat itself?”

This comes two months after Harry and his wife Meghan Markle’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in which they claimed launched various attacks at the royal family. Though one royal insider said for Harry “to continue to target your family leaves little room for reconciliation,” he is determined to speak out about the importance of mental well-being.

“It’s my responsibility, my duty, to break that cycle,” Harry said.

Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals last year and moved to California with their son Archie. They are now expecting a baby girl who is due early this summer.
