Princess Beatrice announced that she is pregnant with her first child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi early Wednesday morning, which was also the third wedding anniversary of her cousin Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle. Now, royal experts are speaking out to claim that the timing of Beatrice’s big reveal was no coincidence, and that it was meant to be a “total dig” at Harry and Meghan.
Harry and Meghan announced that they were expecting their first son Archie at the wedding of Princess Eugenie, Beatrice’s sister, on October 12, 2018. In doing so, they essentially stole Eugenie’s thunder and took much of the attention away from her on her big day. Sources are saying that Beatrice may have chosen to announce her pregnancy today as revenge for her sister.
“It was a total dig at Harry and Meghan,” a highly placed source told Page Six. “They stole Eugenie’s thunder on her big day, after all, and it appears that has not been forgotten.”
Robert Jobson, author of “Prince Philip’s Century,” feels similarly.
“In life, timing is everything,” he explained. “And it seems that after Harry and Meghan stole the headlines and world attention by announcing that Meghan was pregnant with Harry, taking the limelight away from Princess Beatrice’s wedding, that she didn’t forget. Announcing her own pregnancy on the Sussexes third wedding anniversary may have been a coincidence, but I don’t think so. What goes around comes around.”
Another royal watcher with close ties to the palace claimed that the cousins all get along, but this source added, “Beatrice and Eugenie do really like Harry and Meghan, but Beatrice must have known what the timing would look like, surely?”
Social media users were quick to get in on the action as well, with the sentiment being that Beatrice knew exactly what she was doing in announcing it today.
“Well played, Beatrice,” one user wrote, with another adding, “I know it’s cool to not care about the royals but Beatrice playing the long game and announcing her pregnancy on Harry & Meghan’s 3rd anniversary as revenge for H&M dropping *their* baby news at Eugenie’s wedding is the kind of messy bitch I have no choice but to respect.”
Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett had previously written in their book “Royals At War” that Sarah Ferguson, the mother of Eugenie and Beatrice, was furious at Harry and Meghan for announcing their pregnancy on her daughters’ wedding day.
“Meghan put her foot in it when she decided that it would be the ideal moment to announce that she and Harry were expecting their first child,” the authors claimed. “This was a huge social gaffe, even if you were not a royal — stealing the limelight from Eugenie, who was furious, as was her mother, Sarah.”
