Prince Andrew got some bad news this week when nearly fifty patronages cut ties with him following his scandal involving the late billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The Telegraph reached out to 150 groups that had been linked to Andrew, and while most declined to comment, many of them said that it was “no longer appropriate” to stick with Andrew.
“We felt that as a children’s charity it was not appropriate for him to remain patron,” the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children’s Fund stated.
Others told the outlet that they wanted to find a Royal “better suited” to their goals.
Earlier this week, Prince Charles took over one of Andrew’s high-profile patronages: the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Back in November, he also took over as patron of York Minister Cathedral.
Andrew has become a controversial figure due to his past friendship with the late billionaire pedophile Epstein. Virginia Roberts Giuffre, the alleged former sex slave of Epstein, has claimed that she was forced to have sex with Andrew on three separate occasions, including once when she was underage. Andrew has repeatedly denied ever having sex with Giuffre.
Andrew has stepped back from royal life and has been sidelined by the royal family in the wake of these claims coming to light. While Andrew feels he can still help “support the monarchy,” a source told The Mirror that there is “zero chance” of him returning to his former role.
“Whatever the Duke (of York) may think his future looks like, he should be under no illusion that view is not shared by the people who actually make the decisions within the family,” this insider said. “There is no way of him ever returning to front line duties and he will remain very much on the outside.”
Andrew is the third child of Queen Elizabeth and the late Prince Philip. His scandals have been particularly painful for the Queen, as it has long been said that Andrew is her favorite child. The fact that he has been removed from so many patronages indicates that he may never be able to fully put his scandal with Epstein behind him.
