Fans are in shock this week as it appears that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck may have rekindled their relationship seventeen years after they broke up their engagement.

Daily Mail reported that Affleck and Lopez were photographed in a car together before he whisked her off to Montana for a romantic getaway weekend at a luxury ski resort. He was seen sitting behind the wheel, while Lopez was spotted in the passenger seat.

“[Jennifer] spent several days with Ben out of town. They have a strong connection. It’s all been quick and intense, but Jennifer is happy,” a source told People Magazine.

Lopez, 51, and Affleck, 48, became engaged back in 2002, when they were constantly written about in the tabloids as “Bennifer.” They later postponed their 2003 wedding before splitting for good in January of 2004.

Sources told TMZ that it was Affleck who reinitiated contact with Lopez in February of this year, when he penned an email to her about “how beautiful she looked” in photos of her filming the upcoming movie Shotgun Wedding. Affleck sent the email after photos leaked to the press showing Lopez filming wedding scenes for the film in the Dominican Republican.

Affleck also reportedly said in the email that he wishes he could have been in the Dominican Republic too, but was filming The Tender Bar in Boston with George Clooney. The two reportedly stayed in contact via email until Lopez returned home to the states at the end of April after filming was completed.

“They have a lot of love for each other. They have always admired each other,” a source recently said.

Affleck spoke out last month to praise Lopez in an interview with InStyle Magazine.

“I don’t know whether people know it or not, but the most impressive thing about her (and that is a long list) was her extraordinary work ethic,” he said. “She had this humility coupled with the basic assumption that not only did you have to work incredibly hard to succeed, you had to then push yourself even further.”

“I thought I had a good work ethic, but I was completely humbled and blown away by what she was committed to doing day in and day out, the seriousness in which she took her work, the quiet and dedicated way she went about accomplishing her goals, and then how she would go back and redouble her efforts,” Affleck continued. “She remains, to this day, the hardest-working person I’ve come across in this business. She has great talent, but she has also worked very hard for her success, and I’m so happy for her that she seems, at long last, to be getting the credit she deserves.”
