In general, being two-faced is not magical or popular, but in the case of this amazingly beautiful cat, being two-faced is nothing short of a shocking miracle. Meet Narnia the cat. She’s a rare, beautiful cat that we just can’t seem to get enough of.

Born to breeder Stephanie Jimenez in Chatterie de la Grâce, Narnia is a genetic miracle. He stood out from his litter mates with his one-of-a-kind coloring. Half black and half blue with stunning beautiful blue eyes, Jimenez fell in love with him immediately and decided she wouldn’t be selling this special kitten.

As he continued to grow up in his hometown in France, he’s become even more beautiful than he was as a kitten. His striking appearance is due to a genetic condition known as chimerism. Although the exact process isn’t well understood, chimera animals are born due to a genetic mishap when non-identical twins fuse instead of completely separating.

The result is one animal that takes on characteristics of both twins, typically with one half of the face being one color, and the other half of the face being another, just like Narnia. These special animals also contain two different types of DNA, and testing them for those separate types of DNA is the only way to be certain they are true chimeras.

Scientists say that a chimera cat will have it’s own genetic DNA fingerprint, but both sides of its body should have its own distinct DNA, fingerprint, and even blood type.

Narnia’s name is only fitting for the majestic origin of the chimera name given his condition. The name comes from Greek mythology creatures known as Chimeras, which are monsters made up of parts of different animals, more specifically with a lion’s head, serpent’s tail, and goat’s body.

This two-faced kitty has gained much fame, just like other chimera cats before him. Venus and Quimera were other famous chimera cats. Narnia gained his fame after a photo shoot with animal photographer Jean-Michel Labat.
