The funeral of Prince Philip, the 99 year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth, took place on Saturday with the entire royal family in attendance. Noticeably absent, however, was Meghan Markle, the wife of Philip’s grandson Prince Harry. Despite this, a source close to Meghan is saying that her mind “is very much” with the royal family during this difficult time.
“Although Meghan isn’t here, she is of course supporting Harry….her mind is very much on the situation over here,” said royal author Omid Scobie, who is a personal friend of Meghan’s, according to Page Six.
“We know that she’s supporting Harry in this very difficult week for him, but she’ll also be sad because this is also the loss of a family member for her. She grew very close to the queen and Prince Philip over the recent years. It was probably her strongest relationship within the family and those relations then get smaller this week,’ he added before the funeral. “It’ll be a sad day for her.”
Sources have claimed that Meghan was desperate to attend the funeral, and that she tried everything she could to get doctors to sign off on it. Ultimately, it was decided that traveling was not a good idea for her, given the fact that she is about six months pregnant with her and Harry’s second child, a baby girl who is due early this summer. That’s why she stayed home in California while Harry traveled to the United Kingdom alone last Sunday to spend a week there before the funeral.
Insiders said that Harry has been struggling with missing his wife and leaving her at home alone at this point in her pregnancy.
“He’s already really missing Meghan and Archie and has been FaceTiming them every day to check in,” an insider told US Weekly. “He actually speaks to Meghan a few times a day because he worries [about] leaving her when she’s so far along in her pregnancy.”
Meghan sent both a wreath and a handwritten note to the funeral to let the royals know that her thoughts were with them yesterday. It is unclear at this time when Harry will be returning home.
