Before their divorce in 2015, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert were arguably the most beloved couple in country music.

While they have both gone on to find love with other people, him with fiancé Gwen Stefani and her with husband Brendan Mcloughlin, many fans still miss them being together. Now, the true reason behind their divorce appears to have finally been revealed.

Closer Weekly reported that it is believed that being long-distance romance because of each of them having to travel for their tours played a major role in their split. Infidelity rumors, which they have both denied, are also believed to have been a factor.

“This is not the future we envisioned. And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately,” the couple said when they announced their split in July of 2015. “We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”

Shelton told Billboard a year later that his album I’m Honest is his “divorce record.”

“When we recorded the vocals for some of these songs, I was only six months removed from when all the crap went down,” he said at the time. “When you have a broken heart — at least, when I do — you got to get it out of your system. You want people to sympathize with you. I was at rock bottom, in the middle of hell.”

Lambert opened up about her divorce from Shelton in an interview with Health in November of 2019.

“When everyone’s worried about your personal life, it makes you feel like, ‘Well, if you could just spend some of that time talking about my actual art, that would be great!’” Lambert explained. “But I guess I asked for it, getting into this business. I’m never gonna get used to the public eye in that way.”

Last year, a friend of Lambert’s spoke out to say that she is a “much better match” with her new husband than she ever was with Shelton.

“Miranda doesn’t have many regrets,” this insider said. “But now, she’s with the love of her life, looks back and thinks to herself, ‘What was I doing with Blake?’”
