It’s been five days since Prince Philip, the 99 year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth, passed away at Windsor Castle. Now, new details are coming to light about the legendary royal’s final days before his passing.

A source told US Weekly that while the royal family is devastated by Philip’s death, they have also taken solace in the fact that his final days were “very peaceful.”

“The whole family got a lot of comfort in knowing that he and Her Majesty got to be together in the sanctuary of Windsor Castle,” the insider said.

Unlike Philip’s lengthy hospital stay back in February, which he found to be “inordinately boring,” his final days were filled with him doing his favorite things.

“Spending time with Elizabeth, communicating with other loved ones, reading and relaxing in his home environment meant everything to Philip,” the source said.

The source went on to say that the Queen is “keeping herself busy” with plans for the memorial  as she continues her eight days of mourning for her husband of 73 years. The 94 year-old monarch has shown “remarkable resilience” for her family, and for the rest of the nation, according to the insider.

“Her mantra has always been to stay positive during tough times, dig deep and carry on the best she possibly can,” the source explained. “She reasons that Philip would hate it if she sat around moping for the rest of her years, and his extraordinary life and legacy is one that deserves to be celebrated and remembered fondly with every sense. He would have wanted her to look after herself first and foremost instead and she intends to do her best.”

After Philip’s death, the Queen paid tribute to him in a brief statement that was posted to Instagram.

“He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than we would ever claim, or we shall ever know,” she said.

Philip’s funeral is set to take place this coming Saturday, and while there will be limited in-person attendance due to COVID-19, it will be televised around the globe.
