Over the weekend, we reported that the wrestler-turned-Hollywood A-list star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had addressed rumors that he was planning to run for president. Now, he’s addressing this once again, saying that he’ll run if it is “what the people want.”

“I do have the goal to unite our country,” Johnson said during an interview on “Sunday Today with Willie Geist.” “I also feel that, if this is what the people want, then I will do that.”

Johnson went on to say that whether or not he runs for president, he is “passionate about making sure our country is united.”

“A united country, as we know, is its strongest,” he said. “I want to see that for our country.”

This comes after a poll found that at least 46 percent of Americans would support the Johnson’s presidential campaign,” should he decide to run.

“Humbling,” Johnson said of the poll. “I don’t think our Founding Fathers EVER envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pick up truck driving, fanny pack wearing guy joining their club, but if it ever happens it’d be my honor to serve you, the people.”

Johnson told Entertainment Tonight back in 2018 that he had taken meetings to “understand more” about the job of president.

“[The meetings are] just really to understand more and to learn more,” Johnson said at the time. “… The idea of running for president has been very flattering that a good amount of people have been wanting me to run and, honestly, it’s so flattering, but I feel like the most respectful thing I could do is just learn as much as I could possibly do.”

“To become president, that is a skill set that I feel like you have to know,” he continued. “You have to put in the time — like years and years of service, so anyway, that’s where I’m at. I just want to learn as much as I possibly can.”

In the new comedic television show “Young Rock,” which is based on Johnson’s early life, the star makes appearances as he runs for president in the year 2032. Back in February, Johnson talked to USA Today about the rumors that he may run for president.

“I would consider a presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted. Truly I mean that, and I’m not flippant in any way with my answer,” he said. “That would be up to the people. … So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground.”
