Ayanna Williams of Houston, TX, gained Guinness World Record renown for her extreme fingernails. According to Ripley’s Believe it or Not!, she has been growing her nails out for 28 years, breaking the world record for longest nails back in 2017 when her nails reached the length of 18 feet long.

At the time of her first cut in almost 30 years, Williams took a final measurement and her nails were recorded as being 24 feet, 0.7 inches long. She also got one final manicure before the big removal, which took 3-4 bottles of polish and a couple of days to complete.

“It can take up to five days to probably do everything, and just the polish can take two to three days,” Williams told Guinness in a Facebook Live interview in 2017. Over the years Williams’ nails have garnered much interest, and many questions about how she goes about daily life, such as how does she cook, drive, or clean up after going to the bathroom.

“With or without my nails, I will still be the queen,” Williams said, according to Guinness. “My nails don’t make me, I make my nails!

The removal took place at a Trinity Vista Dermatology in Fort Worth, where Dr. Allison Readinger carefully used an electric rotary drill to carefully cut off all but about two inches of William’s nails.

The nails were carefully put aside and will be displayed at the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! museum in Orlando, Florida.

Williams said she plans to grow her nails out to about six inches, but will never let them get to the length they were before. She’s looking forward to finally being able to do some of the tasks she’s been unable to, such as wash dishes and put sheets on the bed.

But she doesn’t regret her years of growing her nails, and hopes her story will encourage other women who want to take on her record, and hopes someone will break it one day.
