Earlier this month, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced to the world during their interview with Oprah Winfrey that they are expecting a baby girl. Now, it’s being reported that Meghan and Harry are planning for her to give birth at home at their California mansion. If this happens, she will be the first British royal to ever be born in the United States.

Sources explained to Page Six that Meghan had initially wanted to give birth to her son Archie at home at Frogmore Cottage, which is where she and Harry were living in the United Kingdom at the time, while being attended by an all-female midwife team. However, when Archie ended up being a week overdue, Meghan was taken to London’s private Portland hospital, where she gave birth in the early hours of May 6, 2019.

“Meghan’s plan was to have a home birth with Archie, but you know what they say about the best-laid plans,” a source said. “In the end, her doctors advised her to go to hospital and all she was interested in was about delivering Archie safely. But she has a beautiful home in California, it’s a beautiful setting to give birth to her baby girl.”

Meghan and Harry bought their $14.5 million Montecito estate last summer after quitting their senior roles in the royal family and moving to California. They announced in their interview with Oprah that they are expecting a baby girl earlier this summer, but they didn’t give any more details about the due date.

“A girl, you know, what more can you ask for? But now, you know, now we’ve got our family,” Harry said. “We’ve got, you know, the four of us and our two dogs, and it’s great.”

Should any complications arise, Meghan and Harry live very close to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, which has been voted one of the best hospitals in America. Sources are curious about how they will announce their baby girl’s birth, as they no longer need to adhere to the strict royal protocols.

“It’s unclear, now that Meghan and Harry are private citizens if they will announce the birth, or what that will look like,” a royal insider said. “This time around, they don’t have to adhere to the royal protocol.”
