It’s been three weeks since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, yet the ripple effects from it continue to be felt around the world. Now, a royal expert is speaking out to say that despite everything that has happened, Prince William and Prince Harry will eventually reconcile in honor of their late mother, Princess Diana.
Diana was tragically killed in a car crash back in 1997 in Paris, France at the age of 36. At the time, William and Harry were only 15 and 12, respectively.
“The greatest hope of reconciliation lies in the memory of their mother,” royal author Anna Pasternak told Fox News. “That is what will unite them still today. I believe they will put their differences aside for her. And I believe there is a possibility of us witnessing that at the unveiling.”
The royal expert went on to say that Harry’s relationship with William will require time and patience before it can ever be healed.
“Given what’s been put out there in the public arena, the brothers and the family look quite fragile at the moment,” Pasternak said. “But it’s clear they desperately need healing as they prepare to stand shoulder to shoulder in honor of their mother. And I think the grudges and the hurts seem to be building up on both sides and widening the rift between the brothers, as opposed to lessening it.”
During their interview with Oprah, Meghan claimed that she was hit with racism from within the royal family, claiming that an unnamed senior royal questioned how dark her then-unborn son Archie’s skin would be. Harry refused to name this family member, only saying that it was neither Queen Elizabeth nor Prince Philip. Meghan also claimed that she felt so isolated as a royal that she considered committing suicide at one point during her pregnancy.
The royal family responded two days later in a brief statement released by Buckingham Palace.
“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” the royal family said in a statement obtained by Fox News. “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
