One week after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, it’s been revealed that a man from Ohio was arrested for trespassing on the grounds of their mansion in Montecito, California.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Fox News that 37 year-old Nickolas Brooks of Heath, Ohio was arrested for allegedly trespassing on Harry and Meghan’s property twice back in December.
Police were called for the first time on December 24, when they “warned” Brooks about trespassing. Just two days later, they were called again about him doing the same thing, and this time they arrested him.
Brooks was booked into jail after being charged with misdemeanor trespassing, and he is no longer in custody. Brooks reportedly has a criminal record that involves an unrelated felony assault.
In an interview with The Sun, Brooks claimed that he thinks he was “high” when he was caught at Harry and Meghan’s home for a second time.
“It was a foggy period of my life. I didn’t even know where I was. I think I was high at the time,” Brooks said. “I don’t know why I went to their place, that’s kind of where I ended up. I drove across the country – I know it’s crazy.
“I’ve been told to stay away and that I’m never allowed back there but I don’t have to appear in court,” he added. “I was in jail for a night and they told me to stay away in future.”
Harry and Meghan moved to their mansion in the ritzy area of Montecito.
This comes just over a week after their explosive tell-all interview with Oprah in which Meghan claimed that she was hit with racism from within the royal family, claiming that an unnamed senior royal questioned how dark her then-unborn son Archie’s skin would be. Harry refused to name this family member, only saying that it was neither Queen Elizabeth nor Prince Philip. Meghan also claimed that she felt so isolated as a royal that she considered committing suicide at one point during her pregnancy.
The royal family responded two days later in a brief statement released by Buckingham Palace.
“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” the royal family said in a statement obtained by Fox News. “The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
