Today is Mother’s Day in the United Kingdom, and to mark the occasion, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three children paid a touching tribute to their late grandmother, Princess Diana.
Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2, handmade some sweet cards for their grandmother that were shared on Instagram by Kensington Palace.
“Each year on Mother’s Day, George, Charlotte and Louis make cards remembering their Granny Diana, for William,” the cards were captioned.
George and Charlotte described their grandmother as “Granny Diana” in their cards, and Charlotte wrote, “I am thinking of you on Mother’s Day. I love you very much. Papa is missing you.”
On George’s card, he drew an impressive tree, black birds, mountains and the sun.
In the post, the palace admitted that the holiday can be difficult for many.
“This year Mother’s Day will be different once again,” the palace said. “Many of us will be apart from our loved ones, but looking forward to a time in the not too distant future when we can give our mother a hug again. But for those experiencing bereavement, today may be particularly challenging.”

William and Kate’s children also honored their other grandmother, Carole Middleton.
“Celebrating two other special mothers today ❤️ 🎂 made by George, Charlotte and Louis,” the palace captioned another post that showed a homemade cake for Carole.

This comes at a difficult time for William and Kate, as it’s been less than a week since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.
“William is devastated by this interview. Don’t forget that the Duchess of Cambridge is being dragged into this whole saga and William will hate that and of course, relationship between father and son is of course at an all-time low,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight.
“I think that the idea that Kate’s being dragged into this will be upsetting for Kate who behind the scenes has tried really hard to be a peacemaker between William and Harry,” the expert continued. “She has been deeply saddened by the brothers’ falling out. Don’t forget she was incredibly close to Harry herself.”
Nicholl went on to say that it is unclear at this time what sort of relationship Harry and William will have going forward.
“Harry has said time is a healer and it is,” she said. “But I think there are so many raw emotions here, that it’s far too early to talk about any kind of family reunion.”
