Days before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey is set to air, Queen Elizabeth has reportedly bought two new corgi puppies to help her through this crisis.
The Queen, 94, is reportedly overjoyed to have the new puppies around, as she has only had one since the end of last year. She’s been known for her love of corgis for decades, and has had more than thirty over the years.
“The Queen is delighted. It’s unthinkable that the Queen wouldn’t have any corgis,” an insider told The Sun. “It’s like the Tower of London not having any ravens. They have only been there a couple of weeks but are said to be adorable and made the castle their home. Both are said to be bringing in a lot of noise and energy into the castle while Philip is in hospital.”
It is believed that the dogs were given to the Queen as a gift, and that they are the first that she’s owned that are not the direct descendants of a corgi named Susan that she received for her 18th birthday in 1944. While it’s been confirmed that they have been named, the names have not been revealed, and neither have the genders.
Ever since she was given Susan at 18, the Queen has always owned a corgi or a dorgi, a cross between a dachshund and a corgi. Her last two corgis, Willow and Whisper, both died in 2018. Since this past November, the Queen has had only one dog, a dorgi called Candy.
The new corgis have come as a shock to royal fans, as it was believed that the Queen would never get another one after 2018. This was because there were fears that she would trip over them, and the fact that she did not want to leave any behind when she died.
“A few years ago it was decided she would have no more,” said royal biographer Penny Junor. “But her corgis are hugely important to her. They have over the years been closer to her than any human being.”
“The corgis are intensely loyal and loving and they have never let her down,” she added. “And of course corgis also seldom rush off to LA to give interviews.”
The Queen needs cheering up now more than ever, as Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah is set to air on Sunday, and it is believed that they will be airing the royal family’s dirty laundry in a big way. On top of that, her 99 year-old husband Prince Philip just had heart surgery, and he has been hospitalized since February 16.
