The singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson is preparing to celebrate her first Valentine’s Day as a single woman in years after she filed for divorce from her husband Brandon Blackstock last summer. Now, Clarkson is opening up about what her Valentine’s Day plans are.
During Friday’s episode of her eponymous talk show, Clarkson revealed what her perfect self-care date would be, and it includes wine and cuddling up by the fireplace.
“We all know that we don’t need someone by our sides to live our best lives,” Clarkson said. “To date myself, I’m a mom of little tiny tots, so I love, literally, having a glass of wine, put the fireplace on in my bedroom…and I read a book or I watch some Netflix. Or I literally just hang out with my girls. I love that.”
Clarkson was then asked, “What’s something that you pretended to be cool with that you weren’t cool with while in a relationship.”
“Oh…,” she said with a laugh before adding, “I dated this guy, and I think because I’m a singer-songwriter, if you date people [who are musicians], they feel like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna write her a song.’ And, don’t.”
Clarkson has been open with her fans about how difficult her divorce has been for her.
“I’m going through one right now. It’s horrible,” she said of her divorce at the end of 2020. “There are so many hard parts. The hardest for me is the kids. That’s the hardest for me.”
“I think, as women especially, we’re trained… to take it all on, and you can deal with it, and you’re fine, but it’s your babies that you worry about,” Clarkson added.
This came after court documents came out confirming that Clarkson’s divorce had taken a nasty turn.
“The level of conflict between the parents has increased,” the documents stated. “The parties have a difficult time co-parenting due to issues of trust between them.”
“Brandon’s been equally unreasonable in his requests for child and spousal support, as well as attorney fees,” a source told People Magazine. “Kelly’s offered to pay for all the kids’ expenses, but Brandon seems to think he is entitled to and needs $301K in spousal support and $135K in child support per month.”
