A proud father in British Columbia, Canada took to social media this week to share a note that his 10 year-old son received from a new student at his school, and it has quickly gone viral.

Ravi Kahlon explained that his son had seen a new boy sitting by himself at lunch, and he decided to join him so that he would not be alone.

“Proud dad moment today,” Kahlon said. “My 10-year-old son saw a new kid sitting by himself. Another friend and he decided to hang out with him over lunch. He got this lovely note at the end of the day.”

The post has quickly gone viral, garnering more than 425,000 likes in just one day! Social media users from all over the world have been touched by the note in a variety of ways.

“As a kid that went to 6 different schools, this made me want to cry. I struggled so hard to make friends till date. Always being the new kid can be depressing and lonely, hugs to your son!” wrote one Twitter user, with another adding, “What I taught my kids from a young age. You see someone alone at school, or worse being purposefully isolated — you have only one thing to do — engage and inspire with kindness. Cool thing — they still do this in their college cafeterias. When I hear these stories, I realize there is hope.”

“Learning your kid did something nice is the best sort of pride. Years ago my kid was hiding under the slide because he had no one to play with, and a kid came and got him and had him play with his group. We’ve never forgotten,” another wrote.

With all the darkness that is present in the world today, and the difficult past year that we have all just faced, it’s easy to forget that there really are still good people out there doing kind things for one another. Thank goodness for notes like the one posted above that restore our faith in humanity, and remind us that there is still good in the world, especially in the next generation of humans!
