After a year that was the most difficult one that many of us have ever seen, we are all hoping that 2021 will be a whole lot better. One such person who wants this to be true is the legendary Grease star Olivia Newton-John, who spoke out to offer fans a powerful message of hope going into the new year.

“I just want to wish you all the happiest and healthiest holiday season,” Newton-John, 72, said in a video posted to Instagram. “I hope that 2021 brings us new things and better news. Just keep your spirits up and think positive thoughts. We’ll get through this. This too will pass. Much love to you all.”

Newton-John knows a thing or two about persevering through tough times, as she has battled cancer three times over three decades. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, and was then diagnosed for a second time in 2013 after a car accident, at which time doctors found cancer in her shoulder. In 2018, her worst diagnosis yet came when she was told that Stage 4 breast cancer had spread to her back with a tumor at the base of her spine.

In an interview in February of last year, Newton-John said she was doing “really well” and said she believed she no longer had Stage 4 cancer.

“I believe your belief system is part of the healing,” she said on the Australian talk show “The Project.” “At my last MRI, which is an exam where they look inside, things are shrinking, going away, staying the same, and I’m living well with it and I’m feeling great.”

Over the past year, Newton-John has been trying to spread as much positivity as possible to her fans.

“It’s OK to feel challenged by the constant and relentless,” read one Instagram post she shared in October. “But nature reminds us in explosive flowering of spring that change is guaranteed and we will rise again.”

That same months, she established the Olivia Newton-John Foundation, which is an organization dedicated to raising money to support research for “kinder and more effective ways of preventing, treating and curing all cancers, including plant medicine and other therapies.”

Going into 2021, we could all learn a lot from Newton-John’s positivity!
