An Arkansas woman gave some families in Little Rock the Christmas gift of a lifetime when she spent $28,000 on groceries at two different Kroger locations.
Ashley Ann Jones, 35, decided to carry out this incredible Christmas surprise after she learned how long lines were at food banks and how many were running out of resources. This forced people to show up early just to get food.
Joseph Mayo, who is a manager at one of the Krogers, said that the purchases were “a great Christmas gift” for customers.
“They’d come up and we’d say your groceries are paid for and they’d be like ‘Are you serious? Really?'” Mayo said. He added that some of the shoppers became emotional because they’d “never had anything like that happen to them before.”
Jones, who owns a business production company and social media strategy firm, gives back to her community as often as she can. Every year, she does a holiday bill-pay for her followers on social media, and she told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that she gave away $35,000 in cash increments of $250, $500 and $1,000 to help her followers with bills this year.
Jones also said that Christmas means “family, love and a time to rest and reflect” to her. She typically throws a Christmas party every year for her family and friends where they sing karaoke and play games.
“It is a bummer that you can’t do your regular traditions, but at the same time [I] think of how blessed we are; none of us passed away, we all still have employment, we all still have a roof over our heads,” she said.
Jones added that she planned to spend Christmas with her parents, her sister and her nephew, and that she would be driving by friends’ houses. She also planned to have some of her friends come over to exchange gifts one on one.
“It’s inconvenient, but we can have our Christmas party in July if we want to,” she said.
Given how rough this year has been for all of us, it’s easy to forget that there are still good people out there doing kind things for others. God bless Ashley Ann Jones for showing all of us that there really is still good in the world!
