Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly just paid back the $3.2 million in British taxpayers’ money that had been used to renovate Frogmore Cottage for them in the United Kingdom. They paid back the money days after it was announced that they had signed a deal with Netflix that could be worth up to $150 million.

Fox News reported that Harry and Meghan had planned to live at Frogmore Cottage, which is located in Windsor, England, before they stepped down as senior members of the British royal family. They then briefly moved to Canada before relocating to Meghan’s hometown of Los Angeles, California. They lived there for a few months in the mansion of Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry before they finally bought their own home in Santa Barbara, California in July.

A spokesman for the couple announced on Monday that Harry had given a contribution to the Sovereign Grant, which is the taxpayer money that goes to the royal family. He explained that this contribution “fully covered the necessary renovation costs of Frogmore Cottage” near Queen Elizabeth II’s Windsor Castle home, west of London.

The spokesman added that Frogmore Cottage will still be used by Harry and Meghan as their home whenever they visit the U.K.

Royal records show that 2.4 million pounds were spent renovating Frogmore Cottage in 2019, including structural work, rewiring and new flooring. British taxpayers were not happy when it was speculated after Harry and Meghan stepped down that they would not be paying back this money.

Money is seemingly no longer an issue for the couple, however, after they signed their lucrative deal with Netflix last week.

“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope,” they told the New York Times. “As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens.”

They went on to say that Netflix’s “unprecedented reach will help us share impactful content that unlocks action.”

Netflix is just as happy to have Harry and Meghan onboard.

“Harry and Meghan have inspired millions of people all around the world with their authenticity, optimism and leadership,” said Ted Sarandos, co-CEO and chief content officer of Netflix. “We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home — and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere.”
