A retired Air Force veteran was so touched when his community came together to help him that he dropped to his knees!

Veteran Ron Hyde was battling terminal cancer, and he had not been given very long to live.

Though Hyde referred to his apartment as his dream home, it was virtually empty, and the veteran slept on an old and moldy mattress in a corner. After undergoing some aggressive chemotherapy treatments, Hyde decided that they were too much for him and that he wanted to live out the rest of his days in peace.

Though he did not have much money, Hyde went to Goodwill with $25 and bought an old chair. He never expected that this move would change his life!

“I went over and bought this pink, $25 chair and I couldn’t get anybody [to give] a ride to get it back to here,” he said.

A woman overheard Hyde say that he had no means of transportation, so she took to Facebook to see if anyone she knew could help this veteran. The post went viral, as the woman’s friends immediately said they wanted to help Hyde however they could.

When one of the woman’s friends brought the chair to Hyde’s home, he noticed that the apartment was in rough shape. The whole community then came together to give this veteran the home he deserves!

Just two days after Hyde bought the chair, he was stunned when a large U-Haul showed up at his house. He was stunned to see that the truck was full of furniture, food, and other essentials that had been donated to him by the community! He watched with tears in his eyes as strangers entered his apartment with beds, lamps, closets, tables and all sorts of food.

“Who knows how much time he has left?” one of the generous people said. “We can at least make it comfortable. He doesn’t have to live on a mattress in the corner.”

“It’s been like a little miracle,” Hyde said.
