A California middle school thought they’d be proactive and by giving students access to important phone numbers right off the bat and ones that were easily accessible on their ID badges. Someone messed up.
A staff member at New Vista Middle School put the list of helpful numbers right on the back of everyone’s badge including a “24-hour Suicide Prevention Line,” a Crisis Text Line, a Tip Line, and a Teen Line. Instead of giving a suicide hotline though, it was a sex hotline.
Guess who caught the error? A parent. How the parent knew the difference is — we can only imagine.
It is still not clear how exactly the mix-up was made, but the administration collected all ID cards from the students and printed new replacement cards. Probably a good idea — probably didn’t make a difference, but they tried.
Really, this is awkward and hilarious and ridiculous all at the same time.
Lancaster School District superintendent also issued a letter apologizing, “Late yesterday we were made aware that the middle school student ID cards have the wrong phone number listed for the Suicide Hotline. The phone numbers have two digits transposed and this is a mistake. The number listed on the card is actually a sex line.”
