Carrie Motley, a California mom of four has continued her six year tradition of dressing up in a Halloween costume every day during the month of October as she picks up her kids from school.
Her boys, Ryan, 16, Sean, 14, Kyle, 11, and Cade, 8, all attend school in the Rocklin Unified School District and didn’t initially love the idea of their mom showing up at school decked out in an entire Halloween costume. But after six years, they’ve gotten used to it and have even joined in on the fun. They actually get excited for the surprise at the end of the day.
Her tradition has not gone unnoticed, especially to her kid’s classmates, teachers and administration at the school.
Motley told Yahoo Lifestyle, she believes the costumes have helped her kids by encouraging them to understand that being a little bit embarrassed isn’t the end of the world. She said, “I have seen my kids explain my costumes to many others like it is so normal, which has developed their courage and confidence.”
Monday, Motley spoke to students at Valley View Elementary School during a morning assembly; she was dressed up as Rafiki from the Lion King, while her son Sean dressed up as Scar. She expressed to Yahoo Lifestyle, “It was a wonderful opportunity to talk to our school about why I dress up and to teach them about kindness and respect.”
