Andrew Marsh is an 8 year-old football fan who has dreamed for years of scoring a touchdown. However, this dream has always seemed like it would be impossible to achieve, as the little boy suffers from various medical conditions that limit his mobility, including severe scoliosis, kyphosis, and muscular dystrophy.

Even after numerous surgeries, physical activity is still difficult for Andrew, but he has never let go of his football dreams.

When Andrew’s 6-year-old sister Katie joined the sports world without him, he confided to his best friend Lucas Haag that he was understandably hurt by this. That’s when Lucas decided to go above and beyond to help his buddy feel better.

Lucas’ father Justin happens to be the coach of the Evansville Junior Football League in Indiana, and when he heard about Andrew’s situation, he reached out to the boy’s mother Kimberly with an offer that was nothing short of adorable: he wanted to make Andrew an honorary member of the team.

Andrew could not have been more thrilled to sign on as Colts’ equipment manager, and Justin said that he has since become a crucial member of the team, as he is their “rallying point.”

“You get kids that sometimes lack motivation, and Andrew would love to be out there,” Justin said. “You plant that seed with the kid that, ‘Hey, Andrew would be out there if he could.’ And it fires kids up.”

To thank Andrew for all that he’s done for them, the team planned a very special surprise for him during their game against the Broncos at Howell Park. During the first play, the team brought Andrew out fully suited up, controlling the right side of his walker so he could hold the ball and make his way to the end zone.

Hundreds of spectators were on the sidelines cheering Andrew on, including his mother, who was brought to tears.

“It’s something we didn’t think Andrew would ever get to experience,” she said. “To have it come to reality is just very emotional and very exciting.”

When Andrew scored his touchdown, the crowd went wild, with both teams forgetting their rivalry momentarily to celebrate together. Though Andrew was shy around the news crews that were there, his smile said it all about how he felt in that moment.
