Katie Eitner is a little girl from Waynesboro, Pennsylvania who just decided to sell her beloved lamb at a recent 4-H auction. Though she loved the lamb, Katie wanted to sell it to help pay for treatments for her stepfather Harley Joe Gapen, who was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Harley’s medical bills have been piling up since his diagnosis, and Katie hoped that the sale of the lamb would help him. She was not expecting to make a lot of money, but she knew that any little bit would help the family. When she stepped into the ring at the county fair with her 145-pound lamb, the auctioneer started things off at $20 a pound.

Katie and her family had no idea that the community had come to the auction prepared to bid high for the lamb just to help them out. Organizers of the auction had spread the word about what Katie was doing, and local businesses, neighbors, and fellow 4-H members had come together to hatch a plan to help her out. As the pounds kept piling up, many in the crowd began to cry because they were so touched by what was unfolding before their eyes.

The winning bid ended up being $233 a pound, which is 10 times more than where the auction started. Katie sold the lamb for a whopping $33,785!

“This is what 4-H and farming is all about!” one social media user commented. “A tight knit group that will go to extremes to help one another!”
