Arachnophobia, which is the fear of spiders, is one of the most common types of fears in all the world. Though many people are terrified of even the smallest of spiders, they are actually mostly harmless creatures when it comes to humans, as all they really want to do is eat insects. Now, animal rescue organization Barnyard Betty’s Rescue is showing the world that one of the scariest-looking spiders is actually the most harmless.

This is the giant Huntsman Spider, and while he may look scary, we can assure you he means no harm.

Huntsman Spiders live in Australia and are normally around five inches across. The one pictures above is named Charlotte, and she’s definitely quite a bit bigger than that!

“Beautiful Charlotte the spider, one of my best rescues yet,” the rescue wrote on their Facebook page. “To answer some of your questions: She is a Huntsman Spider and we are located in Queensland Australia and yes she is very real and very large and not photoshopped!! I released her here on the farm after rescuing her so I can’t get any more photos or video her, I’m sorry.”

“She was a beautiful, calm spider, not aggressive in any way, and like most spiders she just wanted to go about her business eating bugs and living in peace,” they continued. “She didn’t or doesn’t need to be killed! Poor spiders are so misunderstood! All creatures great and small are welcome here at Barnyard Betty’s Rescue, a safe haven no matter how you look!!”

Charlotte now lives the good life at the rescue, weaving webs and catching however many insects she wants. She’s far from being the only animal at the rescue, which gives unwanted farm animals a second chance at life. Other animals living at the rescue include sheep, cows, chickens, and goats.

We applaud this rescue for giving animals like Charlotte the chance to live a happy, carefree life!
