When Ariel Rigney lost her prosthetic leg in an Oregon river, she assumed that she would never see it again. That’s why she was completely stunned when a scuba diver found it the very next day!

Ariel, who lost her leg in a car accident as a teenager, regularly uses her leg to go running and swimming. That’s why she was rafting down the Clackamas River with her friends to celebrate her 32nd birthday. As they rafted, the bungee cord that had been securing her prosthetic became undone, and the leg ended up falling into the river.

Ariel’s friends tried diving into the river to find the leg, but they were not able to successfully find it. Ariel was left frustrated and embarrassed by the experience, so she took to Facebook to talk about it at the suggestion of one of her friends. She assumed nothing would come of the post, but the very next day, she received a photo of her rescued prosthetic from a man named Eric Ganter.

Eric loves scuba diving, so he’s used to finding various odd objects during his dives. However, he was particularly shocked to find Ariel’s prosthetic leg with the rainbow sandal still attached at the bottom of the river. He grabbed the leg immediately and brought it home before searching for “Clackamas River lost leg” on the internet. That’s how he came upon Ariel’s social media post, and he knew right away he had to return it to her.
