Sometimes the strangest of animals make the best friends, and so is the case of one Jack Russell Terrier named Bullet and his feline friend. Bullet lived at the Akwaaba Lodge when his tiny friend was brought to the animal rescue sanctuary. No one knew that they’d end up being best friends.
Jag the jaguar came to the sanctuary as just a tiny cub. He and his human owner bonded quickly. Jag went with her everywhere and even slept with her at night. As Jag grew, she knew the arrangement couldn’t last forever, so she had to think quickly of something to do to keep Jag happy.
She introduced Jag to the little Jack Russell terrier named Bullet. She knew that Bullet was a happy-go-lucky kind of pup and hoped that they would hit it off. She was right. It wasn’t long before the two were the best of friends.

The two would eat together and sleep together, but this arrangement would have to change too. Jag continued to get bigger and bigger so he could no longer roam the sanctuary freely. It was time to put him in a big cat enclosure and the two would have to be separated.
For the first 24-hours inside the enclosure, Jag cried for his friend. His little friend Bullet sat right outside the gate and wouldn’t leave his friend’s side. Both of them were obviously heart-broken at having to be separated.
Although Jag had spent so much time bonding with Bullet, jaguars are not domestic animals and workers were worried that putting them together inside the enclosure could result in Bullet getting hurt, but after watching them struggled to be separated, workers decided to give it a try.

It became obvious very quickly that Bullet was in no danger. He was actually the dominant friend in the unlikely duo. Although Jag has continued to get bigger and stronger and could easily hurt Bullet, he takes his cues from the tiny pup and stops any time he thinks he might be playing too rough with his friend.
The two couldn’t be happier to be back together. They spend their days in the enclosure playing, eating, and cuddling together just like they did before Jag became too big to be outside the enclosure.
