When fireman show up to work each day, they need to be prepared for absolutely anything, as they never know what they will be called upon to do to help their community. In the video below, you’ll see a fireman in Maine save a husky who was trapped on a roof, and the dog then says thank you to him in the most adorable way possible.

It all started when neighbors in the town of Wells noticed a 10 year-old husky named Jasper out on the roof of his porch after climbing out through a window, and he could not seem to figure out how to get back inside.

Jasper was clearly stuck 15 feet off the ground, so the neighbors called 911 to get him some help. The Wells Professional Firefighters was dispatched to help out, and when the fireman arrived, they found Jasper looking perfectly content on the roof!

“The call came in for a dog stuck on a roof. My first thought was on the roof of a car, but I didn’t exactly know what was going on,” said Captain Jeff Nawfel. “Myself and another firefighter who was there with me made the decision that we would ladder the building by ourselves and that we were going to put the dog inside.”

Nawfel decided to just climb a ladder up to the roof and help the dog back inside through a window. Just before Jasper stepped inside, he leaned forward and gave Nawfel a sloppy kiss as if to say “thank you!”

“Friendly dog. Kinda gave me a smooch on the way in the house and that was the end of it and I came down the ladder,” Nawfel said afterwards. The fireman was surprised to learn that this was not actually the end of it, as photo of the kiss quickly went viral after the fire department posted it on social media.

“It floors me that, out of anything going on, this has gotten the attention that it has. It’s crazy. Absolutely crazy,” he said. “You know there’s always the thought of the firemen going to rescue the cat out of the trees… it’s the ongoing thing. But a dog on the roof is a first.”

What a good dog! Watch the rescue for yourself in the video below.
