Many animal lovers dream of living with as many dogs as possible. That’s why so many internet users are jealous of Mackenzie Makatche, who lives an incredible life with nine fluffy Newfoundlands!
“The most common questions I get asked are ‘Is that a bear?’ (nope) ‘How big is your house?’ (I wouldn’t call it big but we have plenty of space) and ‘Are you crazy?’ (obviously),” Mackenzie said.
“I grew up with our family’s first Newfoundland,” she continued. “He was about a year older than me and died when he was 13. My parents were initially attracted to the breed because they wanted a dog that was good with kids and similar to a Lab.”
What surprises people most about Mackenzie is that she does not breed her Newfoundlands. Instead, she bought each of them, and she has known three of them since they were puppies.
“We never have and still don’t intend to breed often, only when we have time to properly raise a litter,” Mackenzie says. “The crew has expanded gradually over the past nine years as my mom fell more and more in love with the breed.”
Mackenzie recently decided to launch her own Instagram to show off her dogs, and it has quickly proven to be very popular.
“I really didn’t have any intentions other than sharing pictures of my dog for anyone who cared to see,” she said. “I was in college and knew most of the people who knew me personally didn’t care to see daily dog pictures on my personal account.”
While she already has over 46,000 Instagram fans, Mackenzie has bigger plans for her dogs than just having them be viral stars. Out of Guinness, Duncan, Storm, Murphy, Coeli, Skyy, Aisling, Oliver and Belle, three have already finished therapy dog training, and two are still in training at this time. She would like to get all nine eventually trained as therapy dogs so that they could help people, especially children! We can’t wait to see what good these nine Newfoundlands end up doing for the world.
