A heartwarming video is going viral this week showing a mother get surprised with her own college degree during her son’s commencement ceremony.
Sharonda Wilson had put in years of hard work at Ferris State University, and she was finally set to graduate this week. However, when she discovered that her son’s commencement at Central Michigan University was on the same day, she did not hesitate in deciding to skip her own so that she could see her son walk.
When CMU president Dr. Robert Davies heard about Sharonda’s selfless decision, he called up FSU and asked if they would confer her degree on their behalf.
Sharonda was stunned when she was presented with her diploma at the CMU ceremony, allowing her and her son to experience the joys of graduating together!
“Dr. Davies really shocked me,” Sharonda’s son Stephan said. “I told a friend of mine that (my) mom was skipping her graduation to be with me, and she used her magic to help Dr. Davies orchestrate that moment.”
“When I heard (she) was getting her degree with me I was speechless,” he continued. “My mother is truly the strongest and most compassionate woman I know. That moment tops (any) other moment I have ever shared with my mother.”
CMU posted video of the heartwarming moment to Twitter, where it quickly went viral.
To attend her son Stephan’s commencement ceremony, Sharonda Wilson was unable to attend her own from Ferris State University. Learning this, @cmichprez contacted FSU President Eisler and was able to confer her degree on behalf of FSU’s president and trustees. #cmichgraduation pic.twitter.com/anCSTHDCdC

Social media users cannot get enough of the video!
“Be the good you want to see in the world. Thank you for sharing some good today,” one social media user commented, with another adding, “I CRIED when this happened! SOBBED.”
“A leader is someone who hears about a conflict and, instead of saying, ‘Oh, that’s unfortunate,’ instead says, ‘How can I improve this situation?'” a third user added. “Well done, Dr. Davies, on seeing and seizing an opportunity to do something good and kind.”
