Country music sensation Alabama has just scored another viral hit for themselves with their rendition of the classic Christian hymn “The Old Rugged Cross.”
“On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
The emblem of suffering and shame
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain”
Classic hymns and country music often seem to go together perfectly, and that is certainly the case with this song. We’ve all heard this song sung in church, but we can guarantee that you’ve never heard it like this before!
“So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross
Till my trophies at last I lay down
And I will cling to the old rugged cross
And exchange it some day for a crown”
The cross will always serve as a reminder of the sacrifice that God made for us when he sent his son down to Earth to die for our sins. Because of this, the rest of us are all forgiven in the eyes of the Lord and are free to live out our lives in Heaven. That’s why we should always cherish the cross as a symbol of this incredible sacrifice.
1 Peter 2:24-25 “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”
