A disturbing video is going viral this week showing the moment that six police officers came together to pull a 79 year-old suicidal man to safety after he tried to jump over the ledge on the Verrazano bridge in New York City last Sunday.

The minute-long video shows the group of officers trying to hold onto the man as he desperately tries to leap 230 feet off the ledge of the bridge.

Driver Tuli Abraham was the first person to notice something was wrong when the Mercedes in front of him stopped suddenly and a man ran out. When Abraham asked the senior citizen where he was going, the man replied, “I am going to jump!”

“Hell no you won’t!” Abraham responded as he tried to grab the man in order to stop him.

By the time Abraham reached the man, he had already managed to climb over the metal wall. Abraham was still able to grab hold of the man’s belt and jacket as the senior tried to free himself and jump.

Meanwhile, Abraham’s wife called 911 as a state trooper came upon them and rushed over to help. Thankfully, he was able to grab the man’s legs and immobilize him, which stopped him from pulling his rescuers into the water below with him.

By the time the video begins, the trooper has already arrived to help. The senior citizen struggles with both Abraham and the trooper for some time before multiple officers arrive to assist. In the end, it takes six officers to finally take him down and get him to safety.

The man was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.

“Outstanding job by New York State Trooper Kaye, #NYPD ESU Detective Bonner & Officer Jezycki and good Samaritans rescuing a male that attempted to jump from Verrazano Bridge today,” the NYPD Special Operations Bureau.
