Over the past few weeks, Nebraska has been hit with some of the worst floods in the state’s history. Thousands of people have been affected by the flooding, with the state’s farmers being impacted worse than anyone. Though many people lost their homes to the floods, the state’s farmers lost both their homes AND their livelihoods.
Thankfully, farmers from all over the country have since come together to help those affected by the floods in a big way.
Led by Robert Broulik and James Garnet, the group of farmers has been sending bales of hay to Nebraska to help farmers after the floods. Hay is a crucial commodity on farms, as farmers depend on it to feed their livestock. Farmers have been loading hay onto semi-trucks and sending it to Nebraska to help the farmers get back on their feet.
“There’s two other farmers donated hay,” Garnet explained when asked why they chose to do this. “Some people that knew we were doing it gave us money for fuel and stuff. It’s just kind of what the farming community always does.”
Garnet went on to say that the farming community came together to help him when he was in poor health, and he is just trying to do the same thing for other farmers in need. Broulik added that loading up the hay and taking it to Nebraska is hard work, but it’s also worth it.
“Took us better part of the day yesterday to just get the trucks ready and get the hay loaded, get it tied down, get it ready to go,” Broulik said. “You know, it’s a long ways out there.”
God bless these farmers for coming together to help their fellow farmers who need it!
