A family from Breckenridge, Colorado went into panic mode when they heard a loud crash in the middle of the night, as they assumed they were being robbed. When they ran to investigate, however, they were stunned to find out that what they thought was a burglar was actually a moose!

After hearing glass smashing in the middle of the night, the family fled and called the police. When police rushed to the scene, they found that the perpetrator was actually a moose who had fallen through a window.

The moose had been walking outside the home in the early hours of Friday last week when she fell through a basement window, waking up everyone inside the house. The moose was not injured and she calmly walked around the home before finding a place to relax in one of the rooms. Though she made quite a mess of the house, she was calm when officers found her.

Colorado Parks & Wildlife posted video of the mess that the moose made on Twitter.

“Think you’re having a rough Friday?” they captioned the video. “Homeowners and Breckenridge Police were surprised this morning when a suspected home invasion turned out to be… an adult cow moose.

“We were called in to take the lead on getting this trespasser out of the basement and into more suitable – though maybe a bit less comfortable – habitat,” they added.

Officers tranquilized the moose and brought her out of the house before releasing her back into the wild.

They concluded by saying that the moose will be sent to a moose habitat in Grand County, and to advise homeowners to install window well covers to prevent this from happening to them!

We’re glad that this story had a happy ending, and that this moose is back in the wild where she belongs!
