In the past year, UCLA gymnast Katelyn Ohashi has become a viral sensation with various gymnastics routines that have transfixed internet users everywhere. This week, she went viral once again with another amazing floor routine that landed her a perfect ten score!
During a meet against the University of Oklahoma on Sunday, Ohashi performed a perfect routine to the music of groups like Earth, Wind and Fire and the Jackson 5. Her latest performance even caught the eye of legendary basketball player Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who took to Twitter to praise her.
“UCLA gymnast Katelyn Ohashi gave one of the most exciting and electric floor performances that I’ve seen in college gymnastics!” he tweeted. “She scored a perfect 10 against Oklahoma. Must watch TV!”

Though Ohashi smiles brightly throughout her routines, she has not always felt so happy about gymnastics. It took her a long time to regain her love of the sport after injury forced her to step away from gymnastics five years ago. She was also left devastated by the body shaming that she said took place “In the gym, outside of the gym, on the internet.”
These days, Ohashi loves gymnastics more than ever, and she turns to poetry to cope with the stresses that come with the sport. Back in January, she went on “Good Morning America” to read one of her poems called “Self-Hatred Goodbyes.”
“But here today I stand with a love that penetrates deeper than any wedding band,” Ohashi said in the poem. “Because I am my own size and no words or judgmental stares will make me compromise.”
