Academy Award nominee Gary Sinise has just released a new book called “Grateful American: A Journey From Self To Service,” and it is already earning rave reviews!
Best known for his role as Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump, Sinise has made a name for himself outside of the acting world as an advocate for veterans through his organization The Gary Sinise Foundation. His new book tells the story of how he went from being a Hollywood celebrity to helping veterans.
Sinise recalled meeting soldiers returning home from the Vietnam War and seeing the negative reaction they got from other Americans. This inspired Sinise to devote himself to USO tours, movies about veterans, and later to creating his foundation.
“‘Grateful American’ is not the usual celebrity ‘tell-all’ with salacious gossip and rumors galore,” Jacob Airey wrote in a review of the book for Daily Wire. “Instead, Sinise offers the readers an intimate look into his early life, his career, and his work for the Armed Forces. It’s a truly noteworthy memoir that sheds light on the entertainment industry and what it’s like to lead the life of a celebrity.”
Airey enjoyed many of the personal anecdotes that Sinise included in the book.
“It moved my heart to read about how Sinise grew to love soldiers and wanted to help them and their families. It’s fascinating to hear how he put that compassion into such roles as Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump and in performing “The Tracers,” a stage play about veterans written by veterans,” Airey wrote. “You feel for him at his low points, you cheer for him during his highs, and you learn how one person can make a difference for his family, friends, and his country.”
We applaud Gary Sinise for all the work he has done to help veterans. We need more celebrities like him!
