Last March, Caroline Maurer strapped 2 year-old Fox into his stroller and took him for a walk around his neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. She had been Fox’s nanny ever since he was four months-old, and she had taken him for walks like this one countless times.

She had no idea that this particular walk would change her life forever.

As Caroline and Fox were crossing a street, a car ran a four-way stop sign and came speeding towards them. The only thought that went through Caroline’s head was that she had to save Fox. As she screamed for the car to stop, Caroline placed her body between the car and the stroller, saving the little boy.

The car ended up hitting Caroline, crushing her hands and throwing her backward. Fox was left relatively uninjured, with only some cuts and bruises. Caroline, however, was seriously injured with fractures in her hands, wrists, and arms. Her hands were so badly wounded that she could not physically lift Fox out of his stroller to comfort him as he cried.

Caroline had to spend two weeks in the hospital and an additional two weeks in rehab. She will have issues with her hands for the rest of her life, but she still has no regrets, as she knows that she saved Fox’s life. His parents will be forever grateful to her for what she did for their little boy, and the world has since hailed her as a hero for her bravery.
