Sky is a 6 year-old terrier mix who had a very difficult start to 2019, as the year began with his owner abandoning him in the parking lot of the Delaware Humane Association.

Staffers were heartbroken when they found Sky in the parking lot along with a tragic note.

“Please take care of Sky,” the note read. “She is 6 years old and friendly. I couldn’t take care of her. I became homeless and couldn’t feed her. She is not sick, just hungry, very friendly. Please find her a home. Please.”

To say she was hungry was an understatement, as Sky was 20 pounds underweight. Staffers could even see her bones sticking out.

After Sky’s story went viral, her owner came forward to give more details of his story. He said that both he and his wife lost their jobs and since they had a large family of multiple children to support, they did not feel that they could afford to take care of Sky any longer. The owner felt that abandoning at the shelter was the only option, and he hoped that she would be cared for and loved there.

Sky was shy at first, but as she regained her strength over the course of weeks at the shelter, her friendly and outgoing personality started to show. Thankfully, Sky has since found a loving forever home with a family who have no intention of ever abandoning her. We’re so glad that Sky’s story had the happy ending that she deserved!
