Amarildo Silva Filho is a 23 year-old man from Brazil who is being hailed as an animal hero for the act of kindness that he is performing to help stray dogs and cats around his neighborhood.
Amarildo is a struggling artist who found himself working at a grocery store to pay the bills, and he felt that he was in a major rut in his life. Amarildo began to feel that he was not fulfilling his true calling, as what he really wanted to be doing was something that could help both animals and his environment.
Amarildo’s neighborhood is often littered with trash, and as he looked around one day, he realized that this “trash” could actually be a treasure for animals in need of a home. He always liked taking discarded items and using them to make upcycled items, so he took an old tire and made it into a bed for a stray animal.
When Amarildo saw how well this experiment worked out, he decided to use tires to make even more beds for animals. Two years later, Amarildo has taken over 6,000 discarded tires and used them to make beds for strays!
Each bed takes about forty minutes to make, and Amarildo begins by cutting and washing the tires. He personalizes each bed with various colors and designs, and he also writes the name of the animal who will be sleeping on it. Sometimes Amarildo picks up old tires off the streets, but he also accepts them as donations and even purchases them himself in bulk.
The beds have become so popular in Brazil that Amarildo now takes orders from all over the nation, and he’s hoping to expand his operation in the years to come. We applaud him for coming up with such a unique way to change the lives of animals in need!
