Back in April of 2017, Rob Maresca unexpectedly passed away after falling off a ladder at work just after his 30th birthday.
After his death, Rob’s devastated parents Bob and Marla made the decision to donate their son’s organs to help save the lives of 15 other people. One of the people who benefited from this was Elisabeth Kepley, a former portrait artist who had been experiencing heart failure. She had spent years on the transplant list before she finally received Rob’s heart.
Rob’s parents also gave Elisabeth his old paints and art supplies, as he was an artist as well. Wanting to thank them for saving her life, Elisabeth promised to paint Rob’s portrait as soon as she was ready to paint again. One year after receiving the heart, the 58-year-old Elisabeth can now bike, hike, run, and even participate in triathlons. Rob really did give Elisabeth her life back!
Finally, it came time for Elisabeth to show Bob and Marla the painting she had created of their son. The emotional moment that she showed her painting to them was captured on camera, and the video has quickly gone viral.
“The message I hope that my story portrays is that organ donation is the most loving thing that a person can do once a person can no longer use their organs,” Elisabeth said. “The gift of healing begins for the donor’s family when they decide to give the gift of life to another person.”
